Birthday Scrapbooking
for the Joy of It!

I have a confession to make - I am addicted to birthday scrapbooking! Birthdays come along every year, and every member of the family, as well as extended family and close friends, have their own special days year after year. Scrapbooking supplies for birthdays are literally unending as every brand (and even dollar stores) now put out new supplies for this theme. Plus, you can use many non-birthday products and papers to create amazing birthday scrapbooking pages.

All of the supply options and the abundant opportunities to create unique pages is exciting! I am constantly on the lookout for new supplies whenever I venture into a store. Yet, there are some basic themes and birthday-related items which continually inspire me that I want to share them with you. Who knows - it may help you find your own amazing birthday layouts!

Embellishing With Balloons

There are tons of balloon themed supplies out there, from scrapbooking paper covered in colorful balloons to cut outs, stamps, and punches. I personally love balloons because you can do so many different things with them that make a page stand out.

One way to have fun with balloons on your birthday scrapbooking layouts is to add faces onto them. You can use cut outs or other balloon embellishments and then enhance them with your own glitter glue faces. Make funny faces for an adult's "over the hill" themed birthday scrapbook, or cutesy baby smiles for your child's clown-themed birthday party page.

You can also make your own balloons and give them your own artistic touch. I do this by cutting small balloon shapes out of paper and then using very thin ribbon for a ribbon that stands off the page. I then embellish the balloons so they are sparkly and stand off the page.

Covering an area of your layout with your own cut out balloons and then overlapping with velum can create a nice effect as well.

Opening the Gifts

The presents are a major part of a birthday, right? That's why I almost never leave them out of my birthday scrapbooking projects. I take tons of pictures of my children opening their gifts or make sure to capture it on film when a friend receives something very special, and then I spend some time creating my own gift embellishments.

You can use literally any scrapbooking supplies to create gifts and pop-up glue dots can give them some rise off the page that makes them stand out.

Yum - Cake and Ice Cream!

What's a birthday party without cake, cookies, ice cream, and candy? There are some great embellishments sweet in nature, or once again have some fun creating your own. Small pieces of candy or cake images can be used to fill in small areas of space or you can use a large embellished paper piecing of an elaborate cake as the primary feature on your page.

Birthday Hats

Birthday hats are another fun feature that can be used in a very versatile manner to embellish your birthday scrapbooking pages.

Slap a hat sticker over a picture to give a silly look to an adult birthday girl's photo, or use them as corners and page fillers for a kid's layouts.

All of these elements of design are rather simple, but they are fun to work with because they can be dressed up for a more elaborate display or downplayed and used as background objects.
