How to Make Digital Scrapbook Pages

Scrapbooking is a familiar concept, but digital scrapbooking has quickly emerged as the latest and greatest way of documenting memories. However, that term may not be familiar to everyone. Digital scrap booking is actually something that anyone can have fun with.

Basically what you're doing is creating digital scrapbook pages with a computer and digital scrapbooking software that helps to create a showcase for your memories.

Many individuals who use the computer to create these pages print them out to use them in more traditional scrapbooks, but some scrap bookers actually keep all of their digital memories on the computer. Here individuals can store photographs onto their hard drives which not only saves space, but keeps your memories available by the click of a mouse. It's this accessibility that has made digital scrapbooking become increasingly popular.

To start putting together your digital scrapbook page you will need to start at the very beginning. You'll need to create a digital layout for yourself. There are many free digital scrapbooking layouts on the internet you can get ideas from.

To begin, you create a background paper which will be the base of your entire page. Here you can choose a color, pattern, or a theme to identify your page. For example, if you choose a background page that is covered in balloons it'll be obvious that this page is about a celebration.

From there you'll need to create fields that you can drop photographs into. These fields can be different shapes and sizes, and it's really up to the individual scrap bookers taste and needs. Additionally, you'll want to decide if these fields are going to have any embellishments like outlines or shadowing. You can add these in easily on your computer. Another embellishment that you may want to add in is an accent paper that you have created on your computer. This can help to enhance the overall look of your page.

To get started with digital scrapbooks there are going to be some supplies that you need to have. Obviously a computer is a must have. Your computer can be either a PC or a MAC, but you want to be sure that you have no less than 256 KB of RAM. From there you will want to be sure that your computer has some software on it that is capable of editing and managing photos. A program like Adobe Photoshop, Jasc Paint Shop Pro, or iPhoto will help get you started on embedding photographs into your digital scrapbook pages.

Of course you must have some photos loaded onto your computer to access. You can typically do this by either scanning them in off of hard copies of the photos or by importing the pictures directly into your computer from your digital camera. Be sure that as you are adding your photographs onto your computer that you keep them clearly labeled so that they are easily accessible for you as you digitally scrapbook.

Once you have all of your supplies you are ready to get started. You'll start to use your scrapbook software to create the base of the page. This can be either a solid color, a pattern, or even a scene that you have created with the use of clip art. After you have created this you can move onto the actual layout of your page. You can decide how many pictures you want, and what their placement should be. One by one you can start to drop the photos in. Be sure that you crop and edit them as you work your way through each on. Additionally, you may want to embellish the placement of each photo by adding in a shadow, an outline, or even a separate clip art picture. The truth is that this is where your personality can shine through so have fun with this, but be sure that you always keep an editing eye. You do not want to clutter up your page unnecessarily.

The key with digital scrapbooking is to be sure that you are using your technology to help you create a showcase for your memories. Do not allow yourself to get overwhelmed with the technology. Instead, use the technology as a tool to enhance what it is that you do.
