In my opinion, discount scrapbooking supplies are not just a "nice thing", they are a necessity! The good news is that there really is never a reason to pay full price. There are good deals everywhere. Just look around!
I have a confession to make. The first thing I do when I receive the Sunday newspaper is to pull out the store ads for my favorite craft stores. Fortunately, many of my favorite items are put on sale on a regular basis. Using store ads, I have purchased Cricut cartridges for more than half off, as well as paper pads and card stock, adhesives, punches, rubber stamping supplies, and Jetmax cubes for organizing my scrap area.
Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Joanns, and other craft stores often have coupons inserted in their local ads. Many times these coupons are good for up to 40% to 50% off one item. These coupons are a great way to pick up discount scrapbooking supplies, such as scrapbook albums, paper trimmers, adhesives, storage, and more. Just make sure to read the fine print - usually these coupons are for non-sale items only and other exclusions will generally also apply.
If you do not receive newspaper ads (or even if you do!), sign up to receive coupons and ads via e-mail from your favorite hobby stores. Many times merchants will provide a coupon just for signing up!
Clearance bins are another favorite place of mine to look for discount scrapbooking supplies. I have found great items up to 90% off, just by digging through the clearance bins at my area craft stores, as well as Wal-Mart, Target and Meijer. In fact, the majority of the embellishments that I use on my pages (ribbons, buttons, flowers, stickers) have come from clearance bins.
Generally speaking, I have found that prices at online stores can be very good. I think it's because there is so much competition online, merchants have no choice but to offer great deals, or risk losing a potential customer to another site. As customers, it's a win-win situation for us - it's easy to "shop around" for discount scrapbooking supplies, without ever leaving the comfort of home.
Eventually most scrapbookers get to the point where they need to clear out the clutter. Rummage sales are a good place to shop for discount scrapbooking supplies. When shopping this way, you have to keep an open mind. It's unusual to find exactly what you want, but it's a great way to find hidden treasures at unbeatable prices.
Scrapbooking message boards are another good place to look for deals. Many times message boards will have an area where members can post items they have for sale, or that they are wanting to trade. This is a great way to find discount scrapbooking supplies. However, it does require more effort. Make sure you understand all the details of the trade or purchase before consenting to the transaction. Also, make sure the seller provides you with as much as possible about the condition of the item.
