Scrapbooking Tools Used in Paper Piercing

Scrapbooking is a passion for many people. Not only is it realaxing and relieves stress, but it is also a hobby that can create something truly memorable. It will help you to showcase those special memories that you want to be sure that you remember through the years. There are many different scrapbook techniques that you can use to document your life, and paper piecing is really one of the most unique.

Paper piecing is actually a technique that utilizes different patterns to create one design. To accomplish this you will actually be cutting out various pieces of a pattern out of different types of paper. By doing this you are hopefully going to be creating a more unique and realistic piece to add to your scrapbook pages. The patterns to make these things are available in stores, but hey can also be made by you. All that you need is a basic picture to create your pattern off of. You can find many free scrapbooking paper piercing patterns on the internet as well.

You will want to be sure that you have all of the scrapbooking tools for paper piercing on hand. The basic supplies are really quite simple. You will want to have your pattern, the paper you are going to use, a good pair of scissors, and acid free adhesive. However, if you are hoping to make your paper pieces look better you may want to get some extra tools to help you make a better piece. Micro-tip scissors will help you to cut an intricate pattern, some acid free colored pencils and chalk to help detail your piece, fun pens, and x-acto knife, decorative hole punches, a pair of tweezers, and some detail pieces like sequins and ribbons.

To get started making your paper piece you will need to cut the pattern out. Be careful as you do this. The pattern is the base of what you are putting together. You want to be sure that each edge is cut smoothly and is not at all crooked. If you are careless cutting out the pattern you are going to put your project in jeopardy of looking haphazard and messy.

After you have cut out each pattern piece you are going to want to place it onto the wrong side of the paper you are using. Gently hold the pattern in place and trace around the pattern piece. Again, you must be sure that you do this on the back of the paper that you are using so you will not see pencil tracings on your finished project.

Once you have traced the entire pattern onto the paper you will need to store your pattern for future use. A small sandwich bag is great for this. Additionally, be sure that you label the baggie with a quick bit of detail that explains what the pattern is for.

With your pattern safely put away you can begin to cut out the pieces that you have traced. Take care here as well and try to keep your cuts both smooth and straight. This is a step that you will want to take your time on so that you do not accidently make a big mistake. Once each piece is cut out you should fit them together to be sure that they fit together properly. If you run into a problem you can go ahead and re-cut that piece. Now that all of your pieces are cut out you can start to construct them into the final product. Using your acid free adhesive you can glue the pieces together while taking care to not expose glue to the area that will be visible. You should let that dry, but once it has dried you can add it to your actual scrapbook page.

Paper piercing is not as hard as it looks, but it certainly does not look cheap or easy. Instead, paper piecing will give your scrapbook a beautiful and unique look.
