Scrapbook Furniture and Storage Solutions

If you find that your scrapbooking supplies are taking over your home office or dining room, it might be time to take a look at the different scrapbook furniture options that are available. There are great storage solutions for everyone, whether you have a tiny corner in your bedroom or an entire spare room to spread out your projects.

Let's take a look at the essentials you will need:

A Work Area

Original Scrapbox Scrapbook Furniture

One of the most important aspects of your scrapbooking area is a flat surface to work on your projects. This can be as simple as a portable, folding table or two. You can also use an office desk. Corner style desks work well if you have the room, giving you plenty of space to spread our your projects.

If space is limited, you might want to take a look at the different craft cabinets that are available. These include storage for your supplies, as well as a fold-out table. Examples include the Sauder Craft Armoire and the Original Scrapbox.

A Place to Sit

In addition to a work area, another essential scrapbook furniture piece is a chair. Scrapbooking can be tough on your neck, back and shoulders. It's easy to get so involved in your projects that you don't notice the pain until after you are finished.

If you can afford it or have a spare one, a good office chair makes the perfect place to sit. However, folding chairs are also a good economical solution.

Storage

It's not fun to scrapbook if you can't find your supplies when you need them. This is why it's essential to take time organizing your scrapbooking supplies. There are many different scrapbook furniture options that you can use to stay organized:

Bookcases

Bookcases can be used to store your larger scrapbooking tools. You can add baskets to the shelves to store your smaller items. One of my favorite styles of bookcases for storage are the stackable cube organizers, such as the Closetmaid Cubeicals. As your storage needs grow, you can easily add to this type of system, either stacking vertically or adding on horizontally. They also sell inexpensive fabric drawers for these types of bookcases, which are perfect for storing small embellishments and other supplies.

Modular Storage Units

Jetmax Scrapbook FurnitureModular storage units are similar to the Cubeicals I talked about above. However, there are inexpensive units specifically suited for the needs of scrapbookers, such as the Jetmax modular storage units.

I have found Jetmax scrapbook furniture at Michaels and Target, and actually have many pieces in my scrapbook area. I like the cubes with four trays for holding paper, as well as the drawer units, which are perfect for storing ribbon, adhesives, embossing folders, stamping supplies, and other small items. The Jetmax cubes can be put together in a number of configurations - you can use them either as wall storage, or put them together in various craft desk configurations.

Household Items

There are a number of household items that can be used for scrapbook storage. For example, over the door shoe holders are perfect for storing odds and ends. Towel bars installed on the wall can be used for storing punches. Installed pegboard can also be a good solution for storing scrapbook tools.

Don't Forget About Lighting

Lighting is another important consideration when selecting scrapbook furniture. If you space does not have adequate natural lighting, or if you know you will be scrapping at night, save your eyes by investing in good lighting for your space. OttLite offers a variety of craft lamps that can be easily moved and adjusted to your needs. Their low heat and low glare lamps reduce eyestrain.

Final Thoughts About Scrapbook Furniture

When you are planning your scrapbooking area, remember that it's something you can add to over time. Also, make sure the area is going to work for you before you add in all your supplies. It's much more difficult to rearrange and make other changes when it involves moving buttons, ribbon, and all your other supplies.

Scrapbooking rooms also need inspiration. If you can decorate the walls or hang pictures up, do so. Add art pictures of your family, inspirational poems and sayings, anything to get the juices flowing. Why not add a bulletin board to hang up layouts or a marker board to draw ideas?

These are just the basics you need for your area. Remember, that your scrapbooks are unique, so the area you make them in should be too!
